Getting the Music Out There!
Thought we ought to try and get you all up to date as to what’s been happening in the crazy world of AYYF.
Firstly, the band were delighted when the Welsh Music Foundation selected “Morgan Rhatlar/Lacken House” from our “Belonging” album for their sampler CD of the best Welsh Music for the huge industry showcase that is WOMEX in Seville. This meant that without, sadly, having to spend several days in Spain last October – our music was put in front of festival and event organisers, radio producers, agents and managers from all over Europe and beyond. Maybe we’ll get along to play at the next one!
Secondly, it was great to be asked by Ty Cerdd to be involved in a music project seeking to inspire today’s budding musicians in schools across Wales. It has created packs containing audio examples of work from a huge range of renowned Welsh composers/musicians – people like Karl Jenkins, William Mathias, Mervyn Burtch and John Hardy – and AYYF! TY Cerdd, based in the Wales Millennium Centre, has developed its’ Young Composers programme to inspire educate and enthuse young people – and we’re really happy that “Mon/Penguin Shuffle” + “Allan Yn Y Fan/Gorymdaith Y Geyers/You Don’t Need To Know will” do the job for traditional music.
Thirdly, its not every day that we get to be on a cover-mount CD for a magazine that has Paul McCartney on the cover! But, thanks to Derek Smith & team at Cwlwm Celtaidd, that’s exactly what happened for the March/April edition of “Rock’N’Reel”. This time the selection was “Gyrru’r Byd Ymlaen/Rural Assets” from “Belonging” and it sounds really good along with selections from other great Welsh artists and friends like Mabon and Bethan Nia. If you missed it we’re sure copies are still available from the magazines’ website – or if you’re at one of our gigs ask us!
Since Meriel joined us at the start of the year we have been busy rehearsing loads of new material – including a number of songs! We also managed to get up to Dylan Fowler’s studio in February and have a new Demo available to showcase the new line-up. We hope to return to the studio later this year to get started on album No. 3
In the meantime – make sure you come and see us on the public events this summer and if you’re keen to book us – email us now!
