Band Update (30 Aug 2005)
Doesn’t time fly when you’re enjoying yourselves! Here we are at the end of August – two thirds of the year gone and only now are we getting around to updating you all!!
This year has been a really busy one for the band so we would like to thank all of those that have booked us for the wide variety of events that we have performed at :- weddings at Castell Craig-y-nos, Castell Caerffili and Castell Carreg Cennen plus further afield at Styal Mill Stockport. Allan Yn Y Fan had a great time – and so did the audience – at Blackwood Miner’s Institute and Ludlow Assembly Rooms earlier this year – it is great to have the chance to play for a public Twmpath Dawns. More recently we were delighted to play for Lisa & Ieuan for their wedding in the breathtaking surroundings of Glanusk Park, Crickhowell – and what fireworks!
The highlight of the year though has to be our recent visit to the Interceltic Festival of Lorient, Brittany. This was the 35th Festival that totally envelops this town for ten days attracting three quarters of a million visitors!! It’s BIG!! We played predominantly on a new free stage – Espace Bretagne on the quayside. Please take a look at the photos elsewhere on this site. The organisation is magnificent (driven to each gig!), the technical crews were wonderful and the weather was magnificent throughout!
Many thanks to David Petersen and all of the Welsh delegation for looking after us and supporting us so well. We want to go back!
The time before Lorient was spent on developing new material. We have a bunch of great tunes composed by Chris and Kate, some excellent traditional Welsh tunes, and a first composition from Emma. This new material will form the core of what we will start recording this autumn for our long-awaited (we hope) second album. We’ll give you more information soon.
In the meantime we are looking forward to performing for a number of private celebrations this autumn and we already have a number of dates in the diary for 2006. Please do contact us as soon as you’re sure of your date – as the diary does fill up quickly!
