Allan Yn Y Fan is Wales’ leading Celtic Music band of the 21st Century with an international reputation for their concert, festival and recorded work. The multi-instrumental quintet are now gaining a reputation as much for their “beautiful vocals” as for their “fiery instrumentals”.

The band’s international touring experience includes performances at Festival Interceltique du Lorient (twice) concerts in Germany (Ludwigsburg, Backnang, Moglingen, Nordlingen and Munich), France , Luxembourg and the Czech Republic. At home in the UK Allan Yn Y Fan has played at many prestigious events including Celtic Connections Glasgow; Trowbridge Village Pump Festival (three times); Priddy Folk Festival (twice); Sesiwn Fawr Dolgellau (twice); Llangollen International Eisteddfod (twice) and Brampton Live in Cumbria. The band has played concerts in The Borough Theatre, Abergavenny, Wales Millennium Centre Cardiff, Pontardawe Arts Centre, Arc Theatre Trowbridge and Theatr Brycheiniog.

Since 2003 the band has released three albums for the Steam Pie label. “Off the Map” was the debut release in 2003 (“Welsh music has a sound all of its own and this is the best introduction to it I have heard” - Dirty Linen USA) followed by “Belonging” in 2006. The greater part of “Belonging” consisted of the compositions of band members and R2 (then Rock & Reel) said :

It’s this open mindedness, together with a genuine sense that they are really having a ball, which makes this such an enjoyable listen and whether they’re pulling out all the stops as on the ‘Morgan Rhatlar/Lacken House’ set or coming over all introspective with Kate Strudwick’s haunting ‘Girl On A Rock’, they display a refreshing honesty and a real passion for their music....

In July 2009 the band released “Trosnant” their first with new singer/fiddle player Meriel Field. The influential website Spiral Earth commented :

Celtic music from Wales sums this up perfectly, full of power, love and fun with a solid backbone of that old Celtic magic running through the hills and streams of Wales. A near perfect mix of tunes and songs performed with real drive by the five piece. It never gets predictable in any of it's twelve tracks...

Whilst R2 reviewer Dai Jeffries summed up the band’s appeal by saying :

Allan Yn Y Fan have a new vocalist, Meriel Field, and for the first time the band has songs on an album. The first we hear of her is on ‘Deio I Dywyn’ where she belts out the song as though it had done her a personal affront. Next is the aforementioned ‘Lisa Lân’ which she sings as sweetly as you could wish, as she does ‘Ar Hyd Y Nos’. Hers is a voice of great flexibility that fits in perfectly with a band equally adept at getting a ceilidh on its feet as caressing an audience with a gentle Welsh lullaby. With accordion, fiddle, flute, bouzouki, mandolin, whistles, guitar and keyboards at their disposal the band can turn their hand to virtually any style...
