IN THE NEWBRIDGE MEMO
Islwyn Acoustic are proud to present a very special concert featuring the top Welsh Twmpath Band ALLAN YN Y FAN together with award winning EMILY SMITH BAND at the Newbridge Memo on Friday 24th November at 8.00 p.m.
Allan Yn Y Fan have just released their second album “Belonging” on the Steam Pie label and recently returned from a highly successful tour of Germany, Luxembourg and France. Becoming as famed for their concert sets as their twmpaths, the Gwent band mix their own compositions with their arrangements of some of the jewels of the Welsh tradition. Allan Yn Y Fan has had a most successful 2006 so far, which has included appearances at both Trowbridge Village Pump and Pontardawe Festivals, plus two bank holiday sets at the Wales Millennium Centre to ever-increasing numbers – 500 on August Bank Holiday Monday!
Emily Smith, meanwhile, graduated from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama in 2003, having already made her mark in Scottish Traditional music circles by winning the Young Scottish Traditional Musician award in 2002. Emily has recorded two albums in the past three years with her voice and instrumental abilities gaining universal critical acclaim. Emily has also found the time to play with the huge Scottish band The Unusual Suspects and North Cregg. Emily’s band includes New Zealander Jamie McLennan on fiddle and Steve Byrne (also of Malinky) on guitar and bouzouki.
Rob Southall of Islwyn Acoustic said “This concert will be a huge treat for all Gwent & South-east Wales fans of Celtic music. It will be a night to celebrate the vitality of both traditions and a great way to cement a friendship between these two bands. The unique nature of the event will be the tunes they choose to play together on this night – I’m expecting musical sparks to fly!”
This concert promoted by Islwyn Acoustic is supported by the Arts Council of Wales “Night Out” scheme and Caerphilly County Borough Council.
